Dr. Tom Bootsma
Dr. Tom Bootsma is a postdoctoral fellow with a medical background at the department of Public Health, Erasmus University Medical Center, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He completed his PhD on patient-centered psycho-oncology, focusing on how patient perspectives can improve personalized psycho-oncological care for chronic cancer-related fatigue.
Since 2021, he has been an active member of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Group, coordinating the health-related quality of life sarcoma project and contributing to several international collaborations.
In 2024, Dr. Bootsma received a personal fellowship grant from the EORTC Quality of Life Group, enabling him to launch DIVERSITY-QOL as principal investigator, an international study on quality of life of LGBTQIA+ cancer patients. Later that year, he secured a second grant as co-principal investigator for RESPECT, aimed at adapting gendered language in quality-of-life questionnaires. He also contributed to the INCLUSIVE study, which examined breast and cervical cancer screening experiences of transgender and non-binary individuals to inform gender-inclusive screening practices in the Netherlands.
He is an active member of national and international interdisciplinary networks on equity in cancer, including the European Cancer Organisation, Psychosocial Oncology COnsortium Netherlands, and the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer.
